I say "Listen to Pete Seeger" because he says...

"Listen to David Rovics..." - Pete Seeger

David Rovics is a folksinger of the rabble-rousing variety. He has become something of a fixture in the North American protest scene, performing at demonstrations throughout the continent, including A20 (April 20th, 2002 anti-war protest in DC), A16 (April 16th, 2000 protest against the IMF/World Bank), the School of the Americas, as well as Prague, Quebec City and many others. David also performs regularly throughout North America, Europe and occasionally elsewhere at festivals, folk clubs, college campuses, and at conferences organized by groups such as SEAC, Veterans for Peace, the Green Party, Independent Progressive Politics Network, and many others. David has shared the stage with the likes of Pete Seeger, Michael Moore, Billy Bragg, Howard Zinn, John McCutcheon, and Ralph Nader. He is a regular guest on Democracy Now! as well as on other radio stations around the world, including BBC, and a community radio station near you.

"David Rovics is the musical version of Democracy Now!"
Amy Goodman, host, Demoracy Now!

David sings original songs about the various struggles of the day, combining accomplished bluegrass-style flat-picking with incisive lyrics. His fifth CD, Living In These Times, was recorded in September, 2001, most of it done live at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, New York. It includes songs about the September 11th tragedy in New York City as well as many songs focusing on the evils of US foreign policy such as the sanctions and bombing of Iraq, songs about the media, shutting down international financial institutions, and songs promoting polyamory and strange bicycles.

"Rovics ... has his fist tight on the pulse of intervention through music."
Sing Out! Magazine

"David Rovics' music gives life and hope in the struggle for peace and justice. He is an inspiration."
Reverend Roy Bourgeois, founder, SOA Watch

"Inspiring, and inspired... For anyone despairing of finding the next generation, worry no more!"
AK Press

I saw "AMEN!" to that.  If you proclaim to be interested in social justice issues and don't know David Rovics, you no longer have an excuse. Check out his thoughts and music at now!  This is just one example of his lyrics here:

From Kabul to Khartoum
David Rovics

From Guatemala to Korea
To the tunnels beneath Hanoi
From Tulsa to El Chorillo
Fat Man to Little Boy

We fought them in Nicaragua
And upon the Cuban shore
We killed Khaddafi's daughter
See what the fatwa's got in store

We're gonna bomb our way to freedom
With the cruise missiles of justice
And the spent shells of democracy
Oh, say, can you see

From Kabul to Khartoum
Where Allah's martyrs bled
To the Iraqi desert
Two hundred thousand people dead

From the School of the Assassins
To Argentina's dirty war
From Arizona to Nevada
We'll nuke our way to heaven's door

In the beginning there was the Plan.
And then came the Assumptions.
And the Assumptions were without form.

And the Plan was without substance.
And darkness was upon the face of the Workers.
And they spoke among themselves, saying, "It is a crock of shit
and it stinks."

And the Workers went unto their Supervisors and said, "It is a
pail of dung, and we can't live with the smell."

And the Supervisors went unto their Managers saying, "It is a container of
excrement and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."

And the Managers went unto their Directors, saying, "It is a
vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength."

And the Directors spoke among themselves, saying to one another,
"It contains that which aids plant growth and it is very strong."

And the Directors went to the Vice Presidents saying unto them,
"It promotes growth and it is very powerful."

And the Vice Presidents went to the President saying unto him
"This new plan will actively promote the growth and vigor of the
company with very powerful effects."

And the President looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.
And the Plan became Policy.
And this, my friends, is how shit happens.

Dear Friend,

The Bush tax cut jeopardizes the nation's ability to maintain fiscal stability and security, and inequitably distributes the benefits it provides. Takes Up Where Left Off

ACTIVIST NETWORK -- People For the American Way

Bush's Poor Decisions Continue -- Our Activism Never Stopped!!!

Thank you once again for signing the petition to the U.S. Senate
against the nomination of Attorney General John Ashcroft. While we regret the final outcome of the Senate vote, the petition push was a huge success. Indeed, 232,528 Americans signed the petition in less than 20 days, helping to convince 42 senators to oppose the Ashcroft
nomination. And 53 senators indicated they would oppose an Ashcroft-Scalia-Thomas type of Supreme Court nominee. That was an extraordinarily important achievement.

Unfortunately, President Bush has continued to make the wrong decisions for America by:

* Instituting a global gag rule on abortion, making it impossible for organizations in third world countries to fully counsel patients regarding family planning;

* Proposing an education plan that is guaranteed to leave many children behind;

* Reducing important health and safety standards that protect our children and our families from the dangers of arsenic in our drinking water;

* Promoting an unfair, massive, and irresponsible tax cut that returns 40 percent of the money to the wealthiest one percent of Americans while neglecting our most important and necessary institutions.

We must speak out -- again and again -- against the terrible policy decisions of the Bush White House. is keeping close tabs on the administration. By joining the action network, you will get the latest news on the Bush Administration's political activity, nominations and executive orders - and the information you need to talk back. You will be connected to national and local campaigns and actions, so that you can speak out immediately and help stop some of President Bush's most harmful proposals. Visit the site at:
